CHRISTIAN ALVESTAM Single “Once Adreamed” Available and Artwork Revealed

Posted by Leevan Macomeau - September 18, 2012 - All News

The artwork and first single “Once Adreamed” for Swedish guitarist/vocalist Christian Älvestam’s (SOLUTION.45, MISERATION, TORCHBEARER, ex-SCAR SYMMETRY) solo EP has been made available at http://soundcloud.com/pivotalrockordings/christian-alvestam-once-adreamed. The EP, entitled Self 2.0, is set to be released on October 19th exclusively in all major web-retail outlets and streaming services via Pivotal Rockordings. An audio teaser of the entire album is also available at http://soundcloud.com/pivotalrockordings/.

Christian Älvestam is perhaps most well known in the metal community as the singer on SCAR SYMMETRY’s first three albums and current front man in SOLUTION.45. However, his involvement with MISERATION, UNMOORED, TORCHBEARER and additional contributions of his signature vocal style as a guest in the most recent DEMON HUNTER and BLOODBATH releases have also helped Älvestam’s name become a fixture among hordes of fans.  Outside of the heavy metal realm, Älvestam also garnered fandom in the house music scene through his collaboration on a single MCD with DJ HENRIK B, entitled Now and Forever. The single not only received rave reviews in the electronic music scene, but also was immediately picked up by DJ Tiesto, who played it in regular rotation on his world tour to tens of thousands of people.

However, Self 2.0 is something different from what fans may expect from the singer/songwriter and it is perhaps best to let Älvestam explain:

“It’s not exactly a secret that I have a weak spot for more pop-oriented stuff – especially in the vein of the sound of the ´80′s. In fact, I have always been listening to softer music, alongside the heavier stuff, which is probably why my own music so often, unintentionally, tends to end up being a mixture of the two. I simply can’t help myself when it comes to merging the aforesaid styles together, it seems. I’d like to call it unavoidable influence, as a direct result of having been indoctrinated with both, from childhood upwards. With that said, fighting against it is not an easy thing, whether you want to or not.  At the same time, some would call it a mixed blessing I guess. Anyhow, I wanted to do something a bit different from what I usually do for a long time now and that is to make an all stripped-down and laidback album, where I use my clean vocals only. Those who have followed me since the early days know I’ve made brief digressions, musically, of that sort before, like the “Final State”-trilogy (Unmoored) and “Lethean Tears” (Solution .45), to name a few, so it’s not like “Self 2.0″ is me heading out into completely unexplored territory. I’ve been there before, grubbing in its periphery. Then again, I guess you could see “Self 2.0″ as me going all the way for the first time, if you like!

What can you expect of “Self 2.0″ then, taken as a whole? Well, if you, like me, dig bands/artists such as Michael Cretu (Sandra/Enigma, etc.,) Krister Linder (Grace/Dive, etc.,) 30 Seconds To Mars, Mute Math, Nephew, Dead Letter Circus, Pendulum, Mew, The Radio Dept. and so on, chances are “Self 2.0″ may strike your fancy!”

The album was mixed and mastered by Plec and Christian Älvestam at The Panic Room.

Self 2.0 Tracklist

1. Once Adreamed

2. Time to Let Go

3. Origins

4. The Unforsaken

5. En Knippa Ljung

ELDRIMNER Premiere Single for “Inom forloppet av ett liv”

Posted by Leevan Macomeau - September 14, 2012 - All News

ELDIMNER’s Single for “Inom forloppet av ett liv” has been made available at http://www.rockbladet.se/2012/09/ny-streaming-eldrimner-streaming-av-inom-forloppet-av-ett-liv/.

ELDRIMNER is a Gothenburg, Sweden based progressive extreme metal act featuring MARIONETTE vocalist Alexander Andersson.  The band will release its highly anticipated debut album Inom förloppet av ett liv digitally on September 28th via Pivotal Rockordings.

Lyrically, Inom förloppet av ett liv tells the life story of a man who discovers a darker side of himself which in turn grows into a disease infecting his thoughts and actions.  Performed entirely in Swedish, this is a story in which your darkest thoughts surface and sing out in pure lamentation.  Expect nothing less than the most bombastic, rhythmically eclectic and stylistically transcendent metal to ever come from Sweden.

ELDRIMNER recorded drums at Top Floor Studios in Gothenburg and guitars, bass, vocals and mixing took place at N3 with THE CROWN guitarist Marko Tervonen.  The album was also mastered by Tervonen and Dragan Tanaskovic (DARK TRANQUILLITY, DIMENSION ZERO, IN FLAMES) and features a guest vocal appearance from ZOMBIEKRIG vocalist Axel Widén who also created the artwork for the album and accompanying novel which will be unveiled on a weekly basis during the run up to the release.

Founded in 2006, ELDRIMNER immediately played shows regularly with other groups in the tight-knit Gothenburg black metal scene.  Over the following years, the band’s original black metal sound evolved and matured, taking inspiration from groups as varied as MESHUGGAH but with focus kept on their new branch of black metal.  In 2009, ELDRIMNER released an EP entitled I mitt jag which was followed by an appearance at Metal Town, Gothenburg’s largest metal festival.

Inom förloppet av ett liv tracklist:

1.   Minnen från förr

2.   Livsflykt

3.   Undergången

4.   Allt du har

5.   Ett sista andetag

6.   Låt det bara ske

7.   Smutsen kommer inifrån

8.   Plågor för glädjen

9.   Inom förloppet av ett liv

RIP STIGMA, Welcome THE DOOMSAYER

Posted by Leevan Macomeau - August 16, 2012 - All News

Italian outfit THE DOOMSAYER - featuring ex Stigma members Stefano ‘Vlad’ Ghersi / Andrea Bailo / Flavio Magnaldi / Stefano Ghigliano – has unveiled a lyric video for the song “Fire. Everywhere.” The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming, yet untitled, debut album recorded at Ridgeway Studio (Bury Tomorrow, The Haarp Machine) earlier this year and was mastered at Lambesis Studios (As I Lay Dying, Zao, Winds Of Plague).

Frontman Stefano ‘Vlad’ Ghersi commented: “This song is the first we wrote after we decided to close the Stigma chapter and create The Doomsayer. It’s one of the heaviest ones we put on the record and we believe it truly represents the essence of our band, both musically and lyrically!”

Check the video out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRDSh21-138&feature=youtu.be

Concerto for the Undead was STIGMA’s last record and was produced at Fear Studio by ex-BLEEDING THROUGH and current BRING ME THE HORIZON guitarist Jona Weinhofen and was mixed & mastered by Scott Atkins (BEHEMOTH, CRADLE OF FILTH, SYLOSIS).  It was released via Pivotal Rockordings. The album featurds lyrics centered on the cult-classic comic book series Tales from the Crypt and includes guest vocal appearances by Jamie Hope (ex-THE RED SHORE) and Jon Hunt (ex-DEAD TO FALL).  Artwork for the album featured stunning comic illustrations of the band’s now patent horror themed lyrics and was created by Andrea Berton of Corefolio Design (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, WINDS OF PLAGUE).

NONEXIST’s Johan Liiva and Johan Reinholdz Reunite; New Album Announced

Posted by Leevan Macomeau - June 4, 2012 - All News

Swedish tech metal supergroup NONEXIST, featuring former ARCH ENEMY and current HEARSE vocalist Johan Liiva and ANDROMEDA/SKYFIRE guitarist Johan Reinholdz have inked a deal with Pivotal Rockordings. Their new full-length record entitled From My Cold Dead Hands is currently being recorded at Multipass Studios and will feature 9 blistering new tracks to be released later this year through all major digital retailers. From My Cold Dead Hands will also be accompanied by cover songs that Pivotal Rockordings will release for free on YouTube. More information on the exact cover songs will be revealed shortly.

Johan Reinholdz commented: “I´m really excited about unleashing the second assault of Nonexist! Even though ‘Deus Deceptor’ came out ten years ago, Nonexist never died.  It has always been alive in my heart and I´ve written songs for it every now and then.  Because I love it, I love this kind of music which I grew up with. A couple of years ago the Nonexist song-writing became more frequent and I came up with the title – ‘From My Cold Dead Hands’ and I started to focus on getting the album done.  I also began dabbling with cover-songs, something I´ve never really done before but it´s great fun! Some of these song choices might surprise you – but they´re all done Nonexist-style! I then asked Johan Liiva if he wanted to join Nonexist again was pleased when he said yes.  He is one the great singers in extreme metal and I´m proud to work with him again!”

Johan Liiva also commented: “It’s been like 10 years now since the debut came out. I actually had this ‘fantasy’ ever since to make a sequel. For various reasons (like for example ‘life’ haha) it took us all this time to finally get there. Thankfully, Johan and I stayed in touch every now and then… and now *kazaam!* – the time has come! Filled to the brim with new and fresh ideas – as well as retro ones, for sure! Let’s hope you people out there who digged and asked for another one appreciates this new one. Hailz and salutes – it’s time… metal to the very bone!”

NONEXIST’s debut full-length record Deus Deceptor was released in 2002 via Century Media/New Hawen Records and the lineup at the time included Johan Liiva, Johan Reinholdz, and DEFLESHED/DARK FUNERAL drummer Matte Modin.  Deus Deceptor was produced by Tommy Tägtgren and Johan Reinholdz at Abyss Studios and featured a musical direction described as a cross between early ARCH ENEMY and CARCASS (circa Heartwork).

Former STIGMA Members Launch New Band THE DOOMSAYER

Posted by Leevan Macomeau - March 5, 2012 - All News

After being known as one of the hardest working bands to come out from the Italian metal community, STIGMA decided to call it a day.

“We felt like we couldn’t move forward with that project anymore, we’ve been around for a decade and reached great goals, including multiple European tours, big festival appearances, two albums and one EP released all over the world.” commented frontman Stefano “Vlad” Ghersi. “We wanted to go further, to push ourselves to the limit to give life to another side of us we kept hidden for a long time.”

This is the reason behind the decision to close the Stigma chapter, and open a brand new page, which is called THE DOOMSAYER.

“This band is something totally new, and we all feel this new sound is truly representing ourselves as persons and musicians in a totally different way. We worked one full year on writing and arranging this material, we’re more focused and dedicated than ever and we’re ready to show everyone who we really are.”

THE DOOMSAYER will be tracking its debut release in April at Ridgeway Studio (Bury Tomorrow, The Haarp Machine..), Oxfordshire, and have plans to start touring right after.

“We’re grateful for all the experience we’ve done as Stigma, we met lots of people on the road, learned a lot and we’re going to keep that as a starting point for THE DOOMSAYER, so watch out!”

THE DOOMSAYER just released an introduction video which features a short pre-production clip of their material, you shall check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_GjG_u6u0A
