st2013-1

Scorched Tundra Festival is proud to announce its entire lineup for 2013.  This year’s installment – taking place on Friday December 27 at Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg – will feature some of the most devastating and innovative bands in the Swedish metal and hard rock scenes.  Full lineup is as follows:

TRUCKFIGHTERS
SKITSYSTEM
KONGH
MOLOKEN
AGE OF WOE

Advance tickets for the festival can be purchased at this link:

p/biljetter/13806/

Holders of advance purchased tickets will receive a free five color Scorched Tundra t-shirt during the festival.  Half price drinks will be available for the first hour after doors.

TRUCKFIGHTERS is well known around the world in the fuzz/alternative scene.  The Örebro-based three piece has released three albums over eleven years, one documentary and have been called “the best band that ever existed” by Josh Homme of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE.  Known for its energetic and entertaining live performances, TRUCKFIGHTERS have performed over 400 live gigs across Australia, Europe, North America and South America including headline tours of Europe and North America this year.

SKITSYSTEM is a crust punk band formed in 1994 by members of several different death metal bands – most notably AT THE GATES - whose common interest lay in D-Beat.  The band has gone on to release four full-length albums and several 7” records to date.  SKITSYSTEM intends to give fans a preview of brand new material from their upcoming release at Scorched Tundra this December.

KONGH will be performing its first show in Gothenburg in support of its third record Sole Creation at Scorched Tundra.  Known for its devastating atmospherics and rich melodies paired with groove laden guitars, KONGH have already racked up numerous accolades including a nomination for P3 Guld Award, #1 Position in Close Up Magazine’s SoundCheck in 2009; performances at Metal Town and Roadburn Festivals; and most recently a Scandinavian run with MESHUGGAH earlier this year.

MOLOKEN was founded in Umeå in 2007 and has since released two highly praised albums Our Astral Circle and Rural.  With foundations in 90s death and black metal as well as 70s progressive rock the band has in a short period of time carved out their own unique sound and musical approach. The bands collaborative writing and recording approach, combined with unique production techniques ensure that organic sound on record will be replicated live at Scorched Tundra.

AGE OF WOE released its debut full length album InhumanForm in the spring and have already added to its growing fanbase within the crust/hardcore scenes by touring multiple times in Scandinavia and Central Europe in addition to appearing at numerous festivals: most recently Incubate Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands.  Composed of members from NO HAWAII, MASSMORD, and FUTURE RUINS, AGE OF WOE recorded InhumanForm live with legendary producer Lennart Östlund (LED ZEPPELIN, CANDLEMASS).  The album was mixed by long-time collaborator Carlos de Sepulveda and mastered by Brad Boatright (SLEEP, HIGH ON FIRE, FROM ASHES RISE).  With tours already in the works for 2014 Scorched Tundra is the next step on a path of destruction for AGE OF WOE.

Scorched Tundra Festival is for the metal community of Gothenburg that has continued to support and churn out incredibly talented bands for over two decades.  The festival is organized annually by Pivotal Rockordings co-owner Alexi Front in association with All Systems Go! and Sticky Fingers.

CHRISTIAN ÄLVESTAM’s (SOLUTION.45 and ex-SCAR SYMMETRY’s) Music Video for “Departure Theme” Now Available; Digital Single Also Available

Posted by Leevan Macomeau - August 4, 2013 - All News

Self20cover_notitle_375

The music video for Swedish guitarist/vocalist Christian Älvestam’s (SOLUTION.45, MISERATION, TORCHBEARER, ex-SCAR SYMMETRY) “Departure Theme” track has been made available at http://youtu.be/x3PYNmiGUoQ

Christian commented on the video:

“The video for “Departure Theme” was shot, cut and edited all by myself and it can be seen as an homage to the beautiful surroundings of my hometown and to my beloved friends and family (without whom life would contain very little meaning). The reason I chose to shoot the video, using a super 8 camera-filter,  is simply because I’ve always had a weak spot for that grainy, yet warm and captivating footage it portrays. The way it manages to give life to things in an instant, drenching each scenery with its delicate shimmer. I just love it. Hope you’ll enjoy the video as much as I did putting it together!”

The Departure Theme – Single was released digitally on August 5th, 2013 through Pivotal Rockordings.  The Single features two audio tracks which were not available on the original digital release of the Self 2.0 album, and are meant to complement it.  Self 2.0 was originally released on October 19th, 2012 exclusively in all major web-retail outlets and streaming services, also via Pivotal Rockordings.

The leading single, “Departure Theme,” and additional track, “City of Sand Castles,” are both tracks which were recorded after the digital release of Self 2.0 and recently included on the physical version of the album released directly by Christian Älvestam through his own production company.  In order for digital music fans to have access to all available tracks, the two additional tracks have now been made available digitally as Departure Theme – Single.  The artwork is an adapted version of the cover used for the physical version of Self 2.0

The physical version of “Self 2.0″, which comes as a limited digipack, hand numbered and signed (if so desired) and including these two addition tracks, is available for purchase at http://www.dimoutproductions.com

A sample clip of the solo EP Self 2.0 is available at
https://soundcloud.com/pivotalrockordings/christian-alvestam-self-2-0

The full track “Once Adreamed,” also from Self 2.0, is available at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcpokeIH-sM

Christian Älvestam is perhaps most well known in the metal community as the singer on SCAR SYMMETRY’s first three albums and current front man in SOLUTION.45. However, his involvement with MISERATION, UNMOORED, TORCHBEARER and additional contributions of his signature vocal style as a guest on DEMON HUNTER and BLOODBATH releases have also helped Älvestam’s name become a fixture among hordes of fans.  Outside of the heavy metal realm, Älvestam also garnered fandom in the house music scene through his collaboration on a single MCD with DJ HENRIK B, entitled Now and Forever. The single not only received rave reviews in the electronic music scene, but also was immediately picked up by DJ Tiesto, who played it in regular rotation on his world tour to tens of thousands of people.

However, Self 2.0 and the accompanying Departure Theme – Single tracks that supplement it are something different from what fans may expect from the singer/songwriter and it is perhaps best to let Älvestam explain:

“It’s not exactly a secret that I have a weak spot for more pop-oriented stuff – especially in the vein of the sound of the ´80′s. In fact, I have always been listening to softer music, alongside the heavier stuff, which is probably why my own music so often, unintentionally, tends to end up being a mixture of the two. I simply can’t help myself when it comes to merging the aforesaid styles together, it seems.”  “What can you expect of “Self 2.0″ then, taken as a whole? Well, if you, like me, dig bands/artists such as Michael Cretu (Sandra/Enigma, etc.,) Krister Linder (Grace/Dive, etc.,) 30 Seconds To Mars, Mute Math, Nephew, Dead Letter Circus, Pendulum, Mew, The Radio Dept. and so on, chances are “Self 2.0″ may strike your fancy!”

Sweden’s ELDRIMNER Release Music Video for “Undergången”

Posted by Leevan Macomeau - August 4, 2013 - All News

BANDBILD_UNDERGANGEN

Sweden’s ELDRIMNER has released a music video for its single “Undergången” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K0sFYzOevo. The track comes from their debut album Inom förloppet av ett liv which was released digitally on October 12th, 2012 via Pivotal Rockordings. The band’s first two singles from the album, “Livsflykt” and the self titled track “Inom förloppet av ett liv” (feat. Axel Widén of ZOMBIEKRIG) can also be heard at https://soundcloud.com/pivotalrockordings/.

The band commented on the video:
“The whole concept of the video is the life of the protagonist of the album. We felt the song was a fitting synopsis for his story and decided to use “Undergången” because it carries a memorable tune and story. Jimmy Olausson (ENGEL) had shown interest in us and asked us one year ago if we’d like to shoot a video with him. Unfortunately we were not ready due to financial reasons, but he asked us again early this year and we decided the time was right, and he was perfect for the job. The idea was to have something very dirty and disturbing accompanying the song, and the final result was exactly as we had imagined.”

ELDRIMNER is a Gothenburg, Sweden based progressive extreme metal act featuring MARIONETTE vocalist Alexander Andersson.  Lyrically, Inom förloppet av ett liv tells the life story of a man who discovers a darker side of himself which in turn grows into a disease infecting his thoughts and actions.  Performed entirely in Swedish, this is a story in which your darkest thoughts surface and sing out in pure lamentation.  Expect nothing less than the most bombastic, rhythmically eclectic and stylistically transcendent metal to ever come from Sweden.

ELDRIMNER recorded drums at Top Floor Studios in Gothenburg and guitars, bass, vocals and mixing took place at N3 with THE CROWN guitarist Marko Tervonen.  The album was also mastered by Tervonen and Dragan Tanaskovic (DARK TRANQUILLITYDIMENSION ZEROINFLAMES) and features a guest vocal appearance from ZOMBIEKRIG vocalist Axel Widén who also created the artwork for the album and accompanying novel which was unveiled on a weekly basis during the run up to the release.

Founded in 2006, ELDRIMNER immediately played shows regularly with other groups in the tight-knit Gothenburg black metal scene.  Over the following years, the band’s original black metal sound evolved and matured, taking inspiration from groups as varied as MESHUGGAH but with focus kept on their new branch of black metal.  In 2009, ELDRIMNER released an EP entitled I mitt jag which was followed by an appearance at Metal Town, Gothenburg’s largest metal festival.

Progressive death metallers SKYFIRE will see its first two albums, 2001’s Timeless Departure and 2003’s Mind Revolution, released digitally for the first time ever via Pivotal Rockordings on January 30th, 2013.  The two albums are have been expanded with the inclusion of the Haunted By Shadows EP tracks, a Japanese-only bonus track and the entire 1998 Within Reach demo which has never seen the light of day.  The “Skyfire” and “By God Forsaken” tracks, originally labeled backwards due to a studio error while the band recorded alongside CHILDREN OF BODOM, have also been properly re-labeled.

Two tracks from each album are available for free download and stream via the following links:

http://soundcloud.com/pivotalrockordings/sets/skyfire-timeless-departure

http://soundcloud.com/pivotalrockordings/sets/skyfire-mind-revolution/

The band formed in 1995 with a vision of combining epic atmospheric metal with complex song structures, yielding a sound that completely deviated from what the rest of the Swedish scene was doing at the time.  SKYFIRE’s unique musical concoction resulted in legacy of over 10 years and will for the first time be available in digital format.  SKYFIRE’s debut album Timeless Departure was released by Hammerheart Records in March 2001 and was recorded at Abyss Studios with Tommy Tägtgren. Timeless Departure, a groundbreaking release that received critical acclaim, combined the tasteful use of keyboards to create a symphonic atmosphere with elements of melodic death, black, and power metal. SKYFIRE followed their debut with Mind Revolution, a slightly more progressive effort in 2003, utilizing Tommy Tägtgren once again as producer.

After the release in 2004 of its third studio album, Spectral, the band went on hiatus and returned after a series of member changes in 2007.  The band regrouped and began writing a new album, the end result being 2009’s Esoteric; a masterpiece that not only draws from SKYFIRE’s trademark sound, but also expands on it with orchestral and choir arrangements as well as even more progressive song structures and heavier riffs.  However, in an effort to make sure all SKYFIRE material saw the light of day, Pivotal Rockordings first released the digital-only Fractal EP in 2009, which featured tracks written between 2004’s Spectral and 2009’s Esoteric and demonstrated the band’s growth as musicians and a group over those years.  It was also the first new SKYFIRE material to feature lead guitarist Johan Reinholdz (ANDROMEDA) and vocalist Joakim Karlsson (STILL I WITHER).

The band released its highly anticipated debut album Inom förloppet av ett liv digitally on October 12th, 2012 via Pivotal Rockordings but the track “Från mitt hjärta” did not appear on the album and was released as a single instead on December 5th  2012.  The band’s first two singles from the album Inom förloppet av ett liv, “Livsflykt” and the self titled track “Inom förloppet av ett liv” (feat. Axel Widén of ZOMBIEKRIG) can be heard at http://soundcloud.com/pivotalrockordings/

The album was also mastered by Tervonen and Dragan Tanaskovic (DARK TRANQUILLITY, DIMENSION ZERO, IN FLAMES) and features a guest vocal appearance from ZOMBIEKRIG vocalist Axel Widén who also created the artwork for the album and accompanying novel which will be unveiled on a weekly basis during the run up to the release.
